As is so often the case with truly well-constructed fiction, this story contains all the exquisitely crafted detail and richness that film adaptations can struggle to encompass. Only enhanced by Paul Ansell's thoughtful narration, this is Susan Hill at her best.

Eel Marsh house stands alone, surveying the windswept salt marshes beyond Nine Lives Causeway. Once, Mrs Alice Drablow lived here as a recluse. Now, Arthur Kipps, a junior solicitor with a London firm, is summoned to attend her funeral, unaware of the tragic and terrible secrets which lie behind the house's shuttered windows. It is not until he glimpses a young woman with a wasted face, dressed all in black, at the funeral, that a sense of profound unease begins to creep over him and take hold, a feeling deepened by the reluctance of the locals to talk about the woman in black or what happens whenever she is seen.

And Kipps has to stay on in the lonely house, sorting out Mrs. Drablow's papers, when the mist begins to enshroud both it and its surrounding graveyard and the high tide cuts it off from the world beyond. The evacuations begin, and soon children are being taken to the country for safety. Teacher Eve Parkins is in charge of one such group.

The children are scared and Eve does her best to calm them, but the truth is that she too is haunted by a personal tragedy she cannot put behind her. Their destination is Eel Marsh House. Desolate and forlorn, it is situated on a causeway and is sinking into the treacherous tidal marshes that surround it. Far from home and with no alternative, Eve and the children move in.

This month sees Daniel Radcliffe jumping back into the horror genre with an adaptation of Joe Hill's novel Horns , and so it's as good a time as any to release the first full trailer for The Woman in Black 2: Angel of Death. Unfortunately Eel Marsh House happens to be a particularly bad place to take children, since it's haunted by a malevolent spirit that specializes in driving children to their deaths. However, author Susan Hill - whose horror novella "The Woman in Black" was the source material for the original movie - penned the story that Croker's script is based on. The central mystery of the Woman in Black - who the ghost is and why she's so angry - was already solved in the first movie, which leaves The Woman in Black 2: Angel of Death to simply see what terrors can be wrought from returning to Crythin Gifford and Eel Marsh House with a bigger cast.

By Scott Foundas. Perhaps it was a bad real-estate market. The time is now , and Crythin Gifford lies seemingly abandoned, save for the requisite scary old blind man and, of course, its resident restless spirit.

Robbie Amell , star of " Upload ," explains why you can't miss the latest from " Parks and Recreation " creator Greg Daniels. Watch the video. A young solicitor travels to a remote village where he discovers the vengeful ghost of a scorned woman is terrorizing the locals. Returning to her childhood home in Louisiana to recuperate from a horrific car accident, Jessabelle comes face to face with a long-tormented spirit that has been seeking her return -- and has no intention of letting her escape.

Woman in Black takes new direction without Radcliffe

The screenplay was written by Jon Croker from a story by Susan Hill. Thirty years after the events of the first film, during the London Blitz , Eve Parkins joins some of her schoolchildren and the school's headmistress, Jean Hogg, to evacuate them to the isolated market town of Crythin Gifford. Upon arrival at the apparently nearly deserted town, Eve is confronted by a raving madman, Jacob, and flees.
