Rainbows have their regular meetings as well as special events and visit exciting places across Northern Ireland.

The Girl Guides, Brownies and Rainbows

They follow a programme called the Rainbow Jigsaw, which involves a wide range of activities and games. Being a Rainbow is all about learning, developing self-confidence, building friendships and, of course, having lots of fun! Look: We encourage girls to look around them and learn about their own environment and community. We also help them understand that they are part of a wider world, perhaps through crafts or games from around the globe, or learning about festivals from other cultures. Learn: Rainbows learn by taking part in a wide range of activities such as trying out crafts and recipes, playing games and visiting local places of interest.

Helping to give girls a head start in life and encouraging them to be happy, self-confident and curious about the world they live in and the difference they make is at the heart of everything we do. Interested in joining us? Register your daughter or as a volunteer.

There are Brownie packs in Ashton on Mersey, Brooklands, Sale Moor and Sale and meetings are held on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday nights, so there should be one that fits in with your girl's love of adventure where she can explore, have fun and make discoveries. Our 9 Guide units in the Sale area cater for girls between 10 and 14 years old. Guides provides an ideal environment for your daughter to get involved in all kinds of activities that you wouldn't find in school or at home. The Senior Section offers a flexible, fun programme open to young women from their 14th until their 26th birthday.

Girl Guiding Torbay (Guides, Brownies and Rainbows)

For girls aged five to seven — Rainbows is exciting, messy, friendly and a lot of fun! Rainbows learn by doing — they get their hands dirty, do sports, arts and crafts and play games. Being a Rainbow is all about having the space to try new things. Through taking part in a range of different activities with girls their own age, Rainbows develop self-confidence and make lots of new friends. Rainbows learn and grow through a programme of age-appropriate activities, trips and adventures - both in their regular meetings and at special events. They can work towards interest badges, where they can learn about everything from recycling to storytelling , and start their skills builder journey , developing core skills and trying new things like camping, leadership and first aid. Rainbows are supported by a group of highly trained, inspirational leaders to explore, challenge themselves and have fun. There are a whole range of exciting events - locally and nationally - that Rainbows can enjoy. My daughter Nancy, who has Asperger's syndrome, has been a Rainbow for over a year and she loves it, especially as many special schools and autism youth groups are boy-dominated.

Revered as a general in the army Baden-Powell came up with the idea of introducing a training scheme for young boys that would instil in them not only discipline and respect but would also help prepare them for life as adults. The Rainbows promote learning, friendship building and play and are intended as a means of instilling confidence in small children so that they bond and play together on an equal without barriers or prejudice. Brownies Having successfully completed their Rainbow stage the girls move onto being a Brownie. Guides By the age of ten a girl is ready to join the guides and with that comes the opportunity to progress her communication skills and also to build up her skills set that have already been taken to a particular level. This role — and the role of the others in the group — is designed to help the girls build confidence and also build up their ability to plan and take control of their own lives — skills which will be invaluable in adult life.
