Having dreams about an ex? Here’s what they mean
Sue has been an online writer for over eight years. She is a mother, social worker, writer, and dream interpreter. Most dreams of death and dying symbolize the end of something old and the start of something new. This dream could be positive or negative depending upon the thoughts and feelings the dreamer has about the dream and the context of the dream. Dreaming of death is most common in people experiencing a major life change or a rite of passage entering adulthood, graduating, marriage, changing a career, retiring, etc.
Many dreams are simply fulfilling a wish the dreamer has. The wishes we dream of are often the ones that are socially unacceptable, the things we don't allow ourselves to think about during the day. Wanting someone else in our lives to die or wanting to die ourselves is socially unacceptable and the desire may come through in a dream.
Dreams revealing these dark desires may help the dreamer seek help from a professional or face the feelings of anger and rage they have towards others in their life. More likely than not, dreaming of your own death may indicate your desire and need to escape the current stressors of your life. Only confronting these stressors in your waking life will resolve the dream and negative feelings associated with it.
Dreams may not mean what they appear to mean at first glance. Characters and objects within a dream, although separate from the dreamer, may actually illustrate aspects of self to the dreamer. The qualities assigned to each object and their relationship to each other may reflect aspects the reader is unaware of, or is beginning to develop, or has repressed, or has only recently accepted. In dreams, death tends to be a powerful symbol of self-transformation, inner growth, and change.
It may indicate the the dreamer is discarding what is no longer needed and making room for something new. Analyzing this dream requires the dreamer to consider what is dying. The death of a child may symbolize the ending of childhood and the beginning of adulthood. The dreamer may either lack this aspect or may have decided the aspect is not useful and is improving it or moving on from it.
For example, if a dreamer dreams a superficial person is dying, perhaps the dreamer has recently identified how they have been superficial and are attempting to improve themselves and reprioritize their life. Since the death may symbolize the ending of old beliefs, habits, thoughts, or inner qualities, the dying person or animal may offer further insight into what is coming to an end.
Animals such as rats, mice, and other typically unpleasant creatures may symbolize negative thinking or negative approaches the dreamer is discarding. If the dream feels negative, it is possible the dreamer is attempting to repress what the dying object is experiencing.
It is important to note that the nature of relationships one experiences with others in dreams reflects the relationships one has with oneself. In dreams, how we allow others to treat us is how we treat ourselves. This theory states that all individuals possess both masculine and feminine aspects of self. In dreams, individuals may find they struggle to acknowledge and express all parts of self in balance and harmony. This dream may also be part of the mourning process, allowing the dreamer to make peace with the loss.
Dreams of death, especially the death of Jesus, may symbolize martyrdom, sacrifice, and religious devotion. The dreamer may feel persecuted by others and has experienced the need to turn the other cheek. Death dreams may be a dream of self-sacrifice for Christians where they are choosing to put the needs of others ahead of their own. Some believe that death is a positive sign that the dreamer will have prosperity and longitivity. Many believe dreaming of their own death or a death of someone they know is a predictive dream showing what is to come.
If the dream involves someone who has already passed, many may interpret the dream as a direct message from that individual. It is important to note that dreams can mean so many things to each individual, at any given time, and could mean more than one thing within the same dream. It is common for dreams to be layered in nature where a symbol may relate to something that occurred during the day, to our subconscious, to our spiritual growth, and to events in our childhood influencing our beliefs, thoughts, and behavior now.
Interpreting one's dreams can be a powerful way to gain insight into a world the individual is too busy to explore during waking hours.

Although the emotions and fears in the dream would be very strong for me and I would intensely worry the dream would, in some way, be predictive, I would want to see how the dream could symbolize something for me. The little boy may represent some aspect of self or something precious to me.
The head itself would relate to thoughts and beliefs. If I step away from my fears and worries, I may perceive the dream as showing me that something has blown my mind and I worry this new information could threaten something innocent or important to me. I've got quite upset and anxious over my dream last night, I personally don't believe that dreams predict the future but it scared me so much it woke me. I woke up and now i keep seeing his tiny body in my arms, he's two.
Thank you for commenting and sharing your dream. When people normally tell me about dreaming of a loved one dying they are very worried and anxious. Your cultural belief that death means longevity for the person you are dreaming about certainly eases fears. The dream could still reflect someone's fears of losing someone or having something come to an end but a belief that it is a positive dream can be a great comfort.
Thank you again for sharing! This dream about your own death is an interesting one. The dream could show your thoughts of death as well as current feelings and beliefs about death. The failure of organs in general in this dream could show you a fear of your body failing and not working.
Do you not want to die in a hospital? That is a common wish and may be reflected in your dream. Thank you for sharing your dream. It is an interesting one and I think it relates to both your emotional and spiritual parts of self. The skyscrapers sound like they represent high expectations and personal goals. Being able to travel in the air would show how much control you have over your life as well as your ability to accomplish these goals. Falling then would relate to failure.
In some ways, does failure feel like it is killing you? The keys are interesting. I would associate the ctrl key with "control" and how overcontrolling your life or losing control may have played a part in this issue.
Using the "shift" key is also interesting. I would associate this with maybe a change and having a fear of change. The suicide would relate to destroying something precious. It would also to intense self-blame and internalizing failures. Wanting to write a message would relate to having trouble expressing all of these emotions. The purple blood to me would not only relate to feeling depleted and drained, but would possibly relate to how this dream could be symbolic of something spiritual for you.
The old apartment may relate to something from your past you need to resolve. All of the water would relate to emotions. The bathroom would relate to where you manage emotions. The laundry would relate to unresolved issues. Everything is filled to the brim- do you feel you are, too? I am still thinking about my dream from last night. It was very vivid but I don't remember much of it except for one main part - I dreamed that I was dying of multiple organ failure.
But for some reason I refused to die in a hospital bed. So I got up, moved to the couch, and then died there. When I was actually gone gone, that is when I woke up. I woke up feeling like the dream had litterally popped like a bubble above my head. There was no feelings of either way being happy or sad when I first woke up. Now I am just simply weirded out by it. There do not seem to be any interpretations needed for these dreams.
It sounds like you may be experiencing PSI dreams are dreams that provide information you are not readily observing in your waking life. These dreams may also reflect an intuition about what is going on for others. It is possible you may have picked up consciously or unconsciously that both individuals were struggling medically.
Hi Sue, I just woke up from a terribly disturbing dream, and I was hoping you could help me interpret it. For a while now, I've been dreaming about walking between two balconies of a skyscraper in mid-air. I can't quite remember why I would want to do that though.
I'm not sure how these keyboard controls work but Apparently, if I pressed the 'Ctrl' button, I would be able to walk on air, but only the 'Ctrl' button. But, in my dream last night, I dreamed that as I jumped off the balcony, I just could not remember which button to press. I kept pressing 'Shift' as I fell through the air, and then, frantically, when I finally tried 'Ctrl', nothing happened.
I was already on the ground. Just then, a groundskeeper walked by and said, "Oh, another suicide. I wanted to let my family know that it was all an accident. So, I scooped blood from what was pooling beneath me and tried to throw it onto the ground to spell out, "Not a Suicide".
When the blood hit the floor, it was clear purple in colour. I couldn't finish the message.

I loved him so much in reality, and he's still trying to keep me in his life by being friends, but I just don't know why I dreamed of him dying of a broken heart.
